This new AFAA continuing education course is designed to teach group exercise instructors how to deliver great classes using music as an essential tool. The course includes basic components of music and creative ways to apply them in a group exercise setting.

Course Objectives:

Upon completion, the students in the Music Essentials for Group Exercise online course will be able to:

1. Master basic music theory fundamentals (e.g., beat, phrase, and tempo).
2. Apply music theory skills using CD samples of music as a "self-check."
3. Determine music usage as it relates to exercise application.
4. Apply foot patterns and upper body conditioning exercises while using smooth transitions.
5. Categorize and appropriately utilize the psychological effect of music in a group exercise setting.
6. Master a competent level of knowledge and skills related to group exercise instruction through successful completion of each of the module quizzes on the material provided through this online distance study course.
7. Gain continuing education toward all current AFAA certifications, and demonstrate the highest level of professionalism as guided by the AFAA Code of Ethics and related legal guidelines.

This unique course package will include:

Music clips, which will be used throughout the course as you learn how to identify musical phrases

Teaching techniques and music listening skills

Choreography creation with music clips

For the introductory price of $45, you can earn up to 4 CEUs by reading the comprehensive modules and successfully completing the corresponding quizzes online. You will be allotted three tries at each quiz with the opportunity to retest if necessary. CEUs earned from this course can be applied to AFAA recertification.

Requirements for credit:

• Score 100% to successfully pass a module exam.
• Pass all modules to earn credit.
• $10 Retest fee for each module.

This course includes music clips which you will need to listen to in order to complete the course. This requires your computer hardware to be able to play music using an audio card, through speaker(s), and compatible software such as Windows Media Player or Quicktime. If you already listen to music on your computer, you may already have the necessary equipment to play the course music clips and most new or recently purchased computers have the capability.
