Series Description

The Injury Prevention Video Corner™ series consists of four (4) individual video lecture courses (or sessions), each based on a component of AFAA's Mechanics of Injury Prevention workshop.

This online course series is designed to help you develop the knowledge and skills necessary to become a successful fitness professional. The content will provide you with both theoretical and practical information, thus providing a blueprint as you move forward in your studies.

Each session in the series is made up of one (1) module to help you move through your readings and self-appraisals in a logical and systematic approach.

Sessions

Session 1 : Understanding Injuries

"Understanding Injuries" discusses the two categories of injuries, stages of inflammation and repair, and basic injury terminology. Intrinsic and extrinsic risk factors for injury are covered, as well as the AFAA 5 Questions and the Exercise Continuum. This video addresses commonly tight muscles, and provides a list of high-risk exercises. The information in this video will be addressed in a quiz to test your knowledge of Understanding Injuries.

Session 2 : Upper Body

"Upper Body" explores injury prevention for the upper body, which includes the shoulder complex, the elbow and the wrist. It also reviews joint anatomy and structure, muscles of the glenohumeral (G-H), shoulder girdle, elbow and wrist joints. This video also covers common mechanics of injuries, strategies for prevention and basic rehabilitation exercises. It includes diagrams and visual examples of exercise progression ideas for the major muscles of the upper body. The information in this video will be addressed in a quiz to test your knowledge of the Upper Body.

Session 3 : The Spine

"The Spine" explores injury prevention for the spine and includes discussion on spinal anatomy and structure, muscles and movements of the spine, common injuries and misalignments, major mechanisms of injury, strategies for prevention, and basic post-physical therapy exercises. This video includes visual diagrams and visual examples of exercise progression ideas for the major muscles of the torso. The information in this video will be addressed in a quiz to test your knowledge of the Spine.

Session 4 : The Lower Body

"The Lower Body" explores injury prevention for the lower body and reviews anatomy and structure, muscle movements of the hip, knee, lower leg, ankle and foot, common injuries and misalignments, major mechanisms of injuries, prevention strategies, and basic rehabilitation/post-physical therapy exercises. This video includes visual diagrams and visual examples of exercise progression ideas for the major muscles of the hips, knees and lower leg. The information in this video will be addressed in a quiz to test your knowledge of the Lower Body.

Upon completion, the participants in the Video Corner™ online course series will be able to:

  • State and apply a variety of concepts and applications to the fitness training environment.
  • Master a competent level of knowledge and skills related to the areas of fitness and exercise programming through successful completion of course quizzes on the material provided.
  • Gain continuing education toward all current AFAA certifications, and demonstrate the highest level of professionalism as guided by the AFAA Code of Ethics.

* Fees & Materials

For the introductory price of $45 you can earn 4 CEUs (1 hour of study accounts for 1 Continuing, Education Unit - CEU) by reading the module, viewing the video, and successfully completing the corresponding quiz online. You are allowed up to three (3) attempts to pass the quiz and earn the designated CEUs.

This course must be completed within one (1) year of the purchase date to be eligible for earning credit.
